I saw a whale for the first time on Friday. It was one of those magical moments. Though, I think it was only part of a dead rotting carcass of a whale that had been sitting in the hot sun all day with an odor that overwhelmed the entire village. People were sitting outside their homes with their shirts covering their noses, watching as the fish and wildlife department tried to drag the floating humpback whale out to sea while sharks tore at it. And I think that pretty much sums this place up. There are opportunities here to see and do things that can’t be repeated anywhere else, but it never turns out quite how you expected.
