Emergency drill set for tomorrow at port
9/28/2009
Motorists can expect a short delay in the port area tomorrow morning.
As part of National Preparedness Month, the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety including the Fire Bureau, EMS, and Port Administration, and other First Responder agencies is conducting a functional exercise in the Harbor Port Area.
The exercise is to test interoperable communications. A mock or imaginary emergency will be created in the port area. It will take place from 10 am to 10:30 tomorrow morning along the village road boundaries of Utulei and Fagatogo.
The public is advised that there may be traffic delays in both directions during the exercise.
Karl Prendergast of the Dept. of Homeland Security explains the importance of the test and what it means to first responders.
